As data centers continue to evolve in size, density, and complexity, so do the fire protection challenge they present. This session explores how emerging technologies, changing facility designs, and evolving operational demands are reshaping the fire risks in these mission-critical environments. We will examine the unique hazards associated with modern data centers—including high electrical loads, advanced cooling strategies, energy storage systems, and modular designs—and discuss how these factors impact detection, suppression, and code compliance. Attendees will gain insights in applying relevant codes and standards (including NFPA 75, NFPA 76, and NFPA 855) and addressing business continuity considerations. Case studies and lessons learned illustrate best practices for mitigating risk while supporting uptime and operational efficiency.
